How to Convert PDF Pages to JPG or PNG Images
You want to post one slide of a presentation on LinkedIn, drop a page of a menu into a WhatsApp chat, or attach a certificate to a form that only accepts images. All of those want a picture, not a PDF. PDF to JPG turns pages into image files in the browser.
Steps
- Open the tool and choose the PDF.
- Pick the resolution (72, 150 or 300 DPI) and the format (JPG or PNG).
- Type which pages you want, or leave it as
all. - Press Convert to images.
Pages are saved as page-1.jpg, page-2.jpg and so on. If you asked for a single page, you get one image directly; several pages come as a zip. A single run handles up to 300 pages, and a counter shows progress as pages are drawn.
Picking a resolution
- 72 DPI: the smallest files. Fine for thumbnails or a quick preview.
- 150 DPI: the everyday choice for phones, screens, chat apps and email.
- 300 DPI: for printing or for zooming in on small print. Files are noticeably larger.
Very large pages at 300 DPI get scaled down to fit inside the browser's maximum drawing size, so a giant poster won't come out at full 300 DPI.
JPG or PNG?
JPG is smaller and great for pages with photos. PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which makes text and line art look sharper, at a bigger file size. PNG also keeps transparent areas if the PDF has them; JPG has no transparency, so empty areas become white.
My rule of thumb: JPG for brochures and photo-heavy pages, PNG for text, diagrams and anything that'll be cropped or edited later.
Examples
Certificate for a job portal. Many Indian government recruitment portals accept documents only as JPG under a size limit. Convert the single page at 150 DPI as JPG. If it's still too big, shrink it with Image Compressor.
Slides for social media. Export the slides you want at 150 DPI PNG for crisp text, then post them as a carousel.
Printing one page at a shop. Some print kiosks handle images better than PDFs. 300 DPI JPG keeps it sharp on paper.
Pitfalls
- The text becomes part of the picture. You can't select or search it in the image. If you need the text, use PDF to Word or OCR instead.
- No single long image. Each page is its own picture. Stitch them in an image editor if you need a tall strip.
- Passworded PDFs need to be unlocked first with the password you know.
- Going the other way (photos into a PDF) is a different tool: JPG to PDF.
Checking the output
Open one image at full size before you send a whole zip. Look at the smallest text on the page: if footnotes or table figures are fuzzy, go back up a resolution step. If the files are much bigger than you expected, step down or switch PNG to JPG. A quick look at one page saves redoing a whole batch, and saves the person on the other end squinting at a blurry certificate.
Privacy
The page states the PDF stays in the tab and isn't uploaded; the browser itself draws each page. Google ads appear on the page, as on the rest of the site.
