How to use it

  1. Enter how many classes you attended and how many were held.
  2. Leave the target at 75%, or set the percentage your course uses.
  3. Add classes still to come to see the finish if you attend them, and how many of them you can miss.

The 75% line

Attendance is attended divided by held. Absences allowed are the classes you can miss and still land on the target: at 75% that is a quarter of the classes held, rounded down to a whole class that still meets the line. Spare absences are that allowance minus the absences you already have.

If you are under the target, the page counts how many classes you would need to attend in a row to reach it. Classes still to come show the percentage if you attend all of them, and how many of those future classes you can miss and still finish on the target. A half class can be entered as 0.5.

Questions

How many classes can I miss and still keep 75%?

At 40 attended out of 50, you are at 80% and the 75% line allowed 12 absences. You have used 10, so 2 spare absences remain in the classes already held.

What if the course uses 80% instead of 75%?

Change the target. Allowed absences and the classes you can still miss both follow the percentage you enter, from 50 to 100.

How many classes do I need if I am short?

The page counts a run of attended classes that brings the percentage to the target. At 60 of 100 and a 75% target, that run is 60 classes: 120 of 160 is 75%.

What do classes still to come change?

They extend the total. At 40 of 50 with 10 classes left, attending all 10 finishes at 50 of 60, and you can miss 5 of those 10 and still land on 75%.

Can I enter a partial class?

Yes. Use decimals, such as 0.5, when a lab counts as half a class. The percentage uses the numbers you enter.
