How the tax is worked out

When your state and the place of supply are the same, each line's GST is split equally into CGST and SGST, or into CGST and UTGST in Chandigarh, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. When they differ, or you tick IGST for an export or an SEZ supply, the full rate is charged as IGST. The rates on offer are the slabs in force since 22 September 2025: 0, 5, 18 and 40 percent, plus 0.25, 1.5 and 3 percent for precious stones, diamonds and gold.

The invoice carries the details Rule 46 of the CGST Rules lists: your name, address and GSTIN, a serial number of up to 16 characters, the date, the customer's name, address and GSTIN, HSN or SAC codes, quantities and units, the taxable value after discount, the tax rate and amount, the place of supply with its state code, whether reverse charge applies, and a signature. A tax summary by HSN code and rate, the total in words in lakh and crore, and a UPI QR code for the exact amount are added for you.

Questions

When do I charge CGST and SGST, and when IGST?

Charge CGST and SGST when your state and the place of supply are the same, and IGST when they are different states. Exports and supplies to SEZ units are charged as IGST, or at zero under a letter of undertaking (LUT).

Which GST rates can I pick?

0, 5, 18 and 40 percent, the slabs in force since 22 September 2025, plus 0.25 percent for rough precious stones, 1.5 percent for cut and polished diamonds and 3 percent for gold, silver and jewellery. The former 12 and 28 percent slabs were folded into these.

Does it check my GSTIN?

Yes. It checks the length, the pattern and the check character at the end, fills in the state from the first two digits, and flags a state that differs. For a new customer, also confirm the GSTIN on the GST portal, since a well-formed number can belong to another business.

What are HSN and SAC codes?

HSN codes classify goods and SAC codes classify services. Businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore print at least 4 digits on B2B invoices, and larger businesses print 6.

Can it make the original, duplicate and triplicate copies?

Yes. Choose the copies in Invoice details: original and duplicate for services, or original, duplicate and triplicate for goods. Each copy gets its own label in the PDF.

Does it handle e-invoicing?

This page makes the invoice document. Businesses above the e-invoicing turnover limit also upload each invoice to the Invoice Registration Portal, which returns the IRN and a signed QR code.

What does reverse charge do?

Tick it when the customer pays the GST directly to the government. The invoice still shows the tax, and the amount payable to you is the taxable value.
