How to use it

  1. Choose Gregorian to Hijri, or Hijri to Gregorian.
  2. Pick the date. Today's date is filled in for you.
  3. Read the converted date and the list of coming Islamic dates; shift by a day if your community follows a local sighting.

The calendar used

The converter uses the Umm al-Qura calendar, the official calendar of Saudi Arabia, from your browser's built-in calendar data. Hijri months have 29 or 30 days and the year is about 354 days, so Islamic dates move about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year.

Many communities begin a month only after the new crescent is sighted locally, which can make the day a day later than Umm al-Qura. The adjustment setting shifts every result so the page matches your community. Dates of Ramadan and Eid are listed by the calendar and should be confirmed by your local announcement.

Questions

What is today's Hijri date?

It is shown as soon as the page opens, on the Umm al-Qura calendar. Shift it by a day if your community follows a local moon sighting.

When does Ramadan start?

The list of coming dates shows the start of Ramadan by the Umm al-Qura calendar. The actual start follows the moon sighting announced where you live.

Why is the Hijri date different in my country?

Countries and communities may start months on a local sighting or a different calculation, so the date can differ by a day. Use the adjustment to match.

How many days are in a Hijri year?

354 or 355, made of 12 months of 29 or 30 days.
