The two ways to split
A range writes one PDF that contains only those pages, in the order you typed. all, or an empty box, means every page. Each page as its own PDF packs them in a zip named page-1.pdf, page-2.pdf, and so on. That zip holds up to 50 pages. A longer file needs a range instead.
The zip stores the files without extra compression. The pages themselves are unchanged.

The PDF stays in this tab and is not uploaded.
Questions
Does 1-3 include page 3?
Yes. Ranges include both ends.
Why is there a 50-page cap?
Each page becomes its own file in the tab. Past 50, use a range so the browser is not asked to build a huge zip at once.
Can I split by chapter titles?
No. This page uses page numbers, not bookmarks.
