How to use it

  1. Open an audio file: MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG and the other formats your browser can play.
  2. Drag the start and end handles, or type exact times, and press Play selection to check it.
  3. Set fades and the output format, then press the save button and download the file.

Trimming, fades and removing a section

Keep selection saves only the part between the handles, for a ringtone, a clip or a podcast snippet. Remove selection does the opposite: it cuts out the part between the handles and joins the rest with a short crossfade, so a cough or a mistake disappears without a click. Fades smooth the start and end so the clip does not begin or stop abruptly.

The MP3 is encoded in the page at the bitrate you choose; 192 kbps suits music and 128 kbps is plenty for speech. WAV keeps the audio uncompressed if you plan to edit it further. Very long files take a little longer, and a progress bar shows how far the encoding has got.

Questions

How do I make a ringtone from a song?

Open the song, select up to 30 seconds with the handles, add a short fade in and out, and save it as an MP3. On iPhone, ringtones are added with GarageBand or a Mac; Android phones use an MP3 directly.

Which formats can I open?

Any format your browser can play: MP3, M4A and AAC, WAV and OGG in all current browsers, and FLAC and WebM in most.

Does cutting reduce the quality?

The selected audio is decoded and saved again at the bitrate you choose. At 192 kbps or higher the difference from a typical MP3 is very hard to hear.

Can I cut a part out of the middle?

Yes. Choose Remove selection, select the part you want gone, and save. The two sides are joined with a short crossfade.
