Version 4 or version 7
Version 4 UUIDs are 122 random bits from your browser's cryptographic generator, the usual choice for IDs. Version 7 UUIDs start with the current time in milliseconds followed by random bits, so they sort in creation order, which keeps database indexes compact. Both follow RFC 9562.
The checker reads any UUID you paste and shows its version and variant, and for version 7 and version 1 the time it was created. Formats include uppercase, no hyphens, braces for Windows GUIDs and quoted values with commas for pasting into code.

Questions
Can two UUIDs ever be the same?
In practice, no. Version 4 has 122 random bits, so you would need to generate billions every second for many years before a repeat became likely.
Should I use v4 or v7?
Use v7 for database keys, because it sorts by time and keeps indexes compact. Use v4 when an ID should reveal nothing about when it was made.
Is a GUID the same as a UUID?
Yes. GUID is Microsoft's name for the same 128-bit format. Choose the braces format for the usual Windows style.
How random are these UUIDs?
They use crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographically secure random generator.
