How to use it

  1. Choose EAN-13, UPC-A or Code 128.
  2. Type the digits or the text. A missing check digit is added.
  3. Download SVG or PNG.

How the codes are built

EAN-13 takes 12 digits and adds the check digit, or it checks a 13th digit you already have. UPC-A does the same with 11 digits. The bars follow the standard patterns, with a quiet margin on each side and the digits printed underneath.

Code 128 uses set B, which covers letters, digits and the usual symbols (characters 32 to 126). The checksum symbol is included. A character outside that set is named in the message so you can change it. The SVG is a vector drawing, and the PNG is drawn at three pixels per bar.

Questions

Do I need to type the check digit?

Type 12 digits for EAN-13 or 11 for UPC-A and the check digit is added. A full code with a wrong last digit is pointed out.

Which text can Code 128 hold?

Letters, digits, spaces and the usual symbols, from character 32 to 126. An accented letter or an emoji needs a different code.

Which file should I print?

SVG stays sharp at any size and is the better file for a designer or a label sheet. PNG is a ready picture for a slide or a message.

Will a scanner read it?

The bars include the quiet zone a scanner expects, and the check digit follows the standard. Print the SVG large enough that the narrowest bar is clearly visible.
