What you hear
At zero the page plays a short tone through the Web Audio API. If the browser blocks audio until a click, the first Start also unlocks it. There is no account and no notification permission.
Leaving the tab can slow timers in some browsers. Keep the tab open if the countdown matters.

No. This is a duration. Use the date calculator for a calendar day.
How do I silence it?
Use the mute switch or pause before zero. The tone is only a fifth of a second.
