How to convert shoe sizes
- Choose men's, women's or kids' sizes and the system you know, then pick your size. You get the US, UK and EU equivalents and the matching foot length.
- Switching between men's and women's? In US sizes a women's size is about 1.5 larger than the same men's size: a men's 8 fits roughly like a women's 9.5. The converter matches them by foot length.
- UK sizes run about half a size (men) to two sizes (women) below US. EU sizes are a different scale altogether, so one EU size can cover two US half sizes.
Measure your foot
- Stand on a sheet of paper against a wall, heel touching the wall, in the socks you will wear.
- Mark the tip of your longest toe, measure from the wall in centimetres, and do both feet; use the longer one.
- Measure in the evening, when feet are at their largest.

Why brands differ
There is no single international standard in everyday use. Nike, Adidas, New Balance and European brands each publish their own charts, and running shoes often fit half a size small. What is a US 9 in UK and EU size?
A men's US 9 is usually a UK 8.5 and an EU 42, for a foot of about 26.7 cm. A women's US 9 is about a UK 7 and EU 39–40.
How do I convert women's to men's shoe sizes?
Subtract about 1.5 from the women's US size: a women's 8 is close to a men's 6.5. The converter matches sizes by foot length.
Are EU and French sizes the same?
