How to make an iOS app icon set

Start from a square PNG at least 1024 × 1024 pixels with no rounded corners. iOS applies the corner mask itself.
Pick Xcode 14+ single size for current projects: Xcode generates every smaller size from one 1024 image.
Pick All sizes only for older Xcode versions or when you want hand-checked small icons; it writes 20 to 180 px iPhone and iPad sizes plus the 1024 marketing icon.
Press Generate ZIP, unzip, and drag AppIcon.appiconset into your Assets.xcassets, replacing the existing one. The Contents.json is included.
The previews show the icon at Home Screen, Spotlight and Settings sizes so you can check that details still read when small.

App Store icon rules

No transparency: the App Store rejects a 1024 icon with an alpha channel. This tool fills transparent areas with the colour you choose.
No rounded corners or drop shadows baked in, and keep important details away from the edges.
Use sRGB or Display P3 colour. Keep text to a minimum; it becomes unreadable at 40 px.
Android adaptive icons need a separate foreground and background layer; the PNGs here cover legacy launchers and the Play Store listing.

Questions

What size should an iOS app icon be?

Provide 1024 × 1024 pixels. Since Xcode 14 a single 1024 image is enough; Xcode creates the 180, 120, 87, 80, 60, 58 and 40 px versions.

Why does App Store Connect reject my icon?

Usually because the 1024 PNG has an alpha channel or transparency. Generate it here with a background colour and it will be flattened.

Do I need to round the corners?

No. Upload a square image; iOS applies the rounded mask. Pre-rounded icons get dark corners.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The image is resized and zipped in your browser.

Does it make Android icons too?

Yes, tick the Android option for 48 to 192 px launcher icons and the 512 px Play Store icon.
