What “different” means
The page compares line 1 with line 1, line 2 with line 2, and so on. A line that exists on only one side is a difference. It does not try to detect a moved paragraph.

Does it ignore extra spaces?
No. A trailing space makes the lines different.
Will it track a sentence that moved?
No. It only compares lines that share a line number.
