How to use it

  1. Open the video.
  2. Choose a target size or a quality, plus a resolution and a frame rate.
  3. Press Compress and download the MP4.

How the size is chosen

For a target size, the page sets the video bitrate from the length of the clip, leaves room for the sound and the file container, and lowers the resolution when the picture would otherwise turn blocky. 16 MB suits a WhatsApp video and 25 MB suits many email limits.

High, balanced and small qualities use a fixed amount of data per pixel instead of a file size. The result is H.264 when the browser can encode it, with AAC or Opus sound. When the first pass lands above the target, the page encodes once more at a lower bitrate. Browser support for this page was checked on 27 October 2026.

Questions

What if the video is already under the target?

The page says so. Compressing still re-encodes it, and the bitrate stays near the original so the file rarely grows.

What if the target is tight for the length?

A very low bitrate stops looking like video. The page keeps a minimum bitrate and tells you the target is tight for this clip.

Does the sound stay?

Yes, at the bitrate you pick, commonly 96 or 128 kbps. A video with a silent track stays silent.

Which browsers compress video?

Chrome, Edge and Safari on a computer or a phone, and Firefox on a computer, using each browser's own video encoder. Firefox for Android has no video encoder for this page.
