Free video tools that work in your browser

Record, cut, shrink and convert videos on your own device: trim a clip, make a big file small enough to send, turn an iPhone MOV into an MP4, or keep just the sound as an MP3.

About these tools

These tools use the video encoder built into your browser, so the work happens on your computer or phone and the file stays with you. Current versions of Chrome, Edge and Safari run them on a computer and on a phone. Firefox runs them on a computer. Firefox for Android does not include this video encoder. A computer is the fastest for long clips.

Trim video cuts the start and the end of a clip. The video compressor lowers the resolution and bitrate to reach a size you pick, such as 16 MB for WhatsApp or 25 MB for email. MOV to MP4 copies the video stream into an MP4 when it can, which is quick and keeps the quality.

Video to GIF turns a few seconds of video into a looping GIF, video to MP3 saves the soundtrack, and the webcam recorder records you with your camera and microphone. The screen recorder records a screen, a window or a tab.

Questions

Are my videos uploaded?

Your videos stay on your device. The tools decode and encode the file inside the page and save the result to your downloads.

Why does a long video take a while?

Encoding video is heavy work. A short clip takes seconds, while a long 4K video can take minutes on a phone. A lower resolution is faster, and the tab needs to stay open while it works.

Which browsers work?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge and Safari on a computer or a phone, and Firefox on a computer. Firefox for Android does not include the video encoder these tools use. A computer gives the fastest results.
