How to use it

  1. Enter age and sex.
  2. Enter height and weight.
  3. Pick the activity that matches your usual week.

The equation

Mifflin–St Jeor is 10×kg + 6.25×cm − 5×age, plus 5 for the male option and minus 161 for the female option. The activity multipliers are 1.2, 1.375, 1.55, 1.725 and 1.9. The result is an estimate of energy, not a prescription.

Pregnancy, illness, and a goal to gain or lose weight are not in the formula. A clinician or a dietitian is the right source for those.

Questions

Which activity should I pick?

Sedentary is a desk day. Moderate is exercise on several days. The labels are the usual factors, not a fitness test.

Is BMR what I should eat?

BMR is the estimate before activity. The second line multiplies by the activity factor.

Does it account for muscle?

No. It uses age, sex, height and weight only.
