How to use it
- Choose the first PDF, the original.
- Choose the second PDF, the changed copy.
- Press Compare PDFs. Removed lines are marked with a minus, added lines with a plus, and the report downloads as a text file.
What it compares
It compares the text the PDFs store as letters, one line at a time, so it finds changed words, new clauses, deleted paragraphs and edited numbers. A line that changed shows as one removed line and one added line, next to each other.
It does not compare pictures, colours, fonts or layout, and a scan with no text layer has nothing to compare. Very long files (more than about 2,000 lines each) are too big to compare line by line in a browser tab.
Compare PDF or Compare two texts? Compare PDF reads the text out of both files for you and keeps the page numbers, which is what you want for contracts, policies and reports. If you already have the two versions as plain text, paste them into Compare two texts instead. For scanned documents, run OCR PDF on both files first, then compare the searchable copies.

Questions
Does it show changes in images?
No. It compares text only. Pictures, charts and layout are not checked.
Why does a small edit show two lines?
A line that changed is listed once as removed and once as added, so you can read the old and new wording together.
Can it compare scanned PDFs?
Not directly. A scan stores a picture of the page, not letters. Run OCR PDF on both files first, then compare the searchable copies; OCR mistakes can show up as changes.
Are the files uploaded?
No. Both PDFs are read with pdf.js in this tab.
Can I compare two versions of a contract?
Yes. Choose the old one first and the new one second. Every changed line is listed with its page, and the report downloads as a text file.
