PDF to Excel converter

Choose a PDF and press Find tables. The page finds rows of text that line up in columns, shows each table with its column dividers, and lets you drag a divider if a column is split in the wrong place. The download is an .xlsx with one sheet per table.

Works on tables the PDF stores as text, such as bank statements and invoices. A scanned table needs OCR PDF first.

How to use it

  1. Choose the PDF, and a page range if the tables are on a few pages.
  2. Press Find tables and check each preview.
  3. Drag a divider, add one, or leave a table out, then press Download .xlsx.

How tables are found

The page reads the position of every piece of text with pdf.js. Lines with two or more pieces separated by a wide gap are treated as table rows, and the gaps that run through all the rows become column dividers. Amounts such as 1,250.00, 1,00,000, (500) and 12.5% are stored as real numbers, so SUM and sorting work, while dates, account numbers and codes with leading zeros stay as text.

It works on tables the PDF stores as text, which is how most bank statements, invoices and reports are made. A cell that wraps onto two lines comes out as two rows, and merged cells or tables drawn as pictures are not detected; a scanned table needs OCR PDF first. Always check totals against the PDF.

Questions

Will my bank statement work?

Usually, when it is a downloaded PDF rather than a scan. Check the column dividers in the preview, drag one if needed, and compare the totals.

Are numbers stored as numbers?

Yes. Amounts with commas, decimals, brackets for negatives or a percent sign become numbers. Dates and codes stay as text.

Can I fix a column that is split wrongly?

Yes. Drag the divider in the preview, add one with Add a column divider, or select one and press Delete. The download follows the preview.

Does it open in Google Sheets?

Yes. Open the .xlsx in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or LibreOffice.

Is the PDF uploaded?

No. pdf.js reads it and the spreadsheet is written in this tab.
