How the conversion works
A PDF does not store headings or paragraphs, only letters placed on a page. The page finds the most common text size and treats noticeably larger lines as headings (#, ## and ###). Lines that start with a bullet or a number become list items, and lines that follow each other closely become one paragraph.
Tables, pictures, links and footnotes are not converted, and a two-column layout can come out in the wrong order. A scan with no text layer has nothing to convert. Check the headings before you publish the result.

Pick PDF to text when you only need the words. Pick PDF to Word when you want an editable document that keeps the pictures, bold and italic.

Questions
Will tables come through?
No. Table cells come out as plain lines. Use PDF to text if you only need the words.
Why is a heading missing?
Headings are found by text size. A heading printed at the body size, only in bold, stays a paragraph.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
No. A scan stores pictures of pages, so there are no letters to read.
Is the file uploaded?
No. It is read with pdf.js in this tab.
Can I paste the result into ChatGPT or a docs site?
Yes. The Markdown is plain text, so it pastes into notes apps, wikis, GitHub and AI chats.
