How to use it

  1. Choose a language and press Start.
  2. Speak in phrases. The words fill the box as the browser hears them.
  3. Press Stop, then copy or save the text.

Where the audio goes

Chrome and Edge send what you say to their speech service and return the words. Safari may send the audio to Apple's servers. This page does not take a copy of the audio. The transcript stays in this tab, and a reload keeps it until you close the tab.

Keep listening holds the microphone open so you can pause between sentences. Turn it off for a single phrase. Punctuation depends on the speech service: some insert periods when you say them, and some leave that to you. Voice typing runs in current Chrome, Edge and Safari.

Questions

Where does the audio go?

Chrome and Edge send it to their speech service. Safari may send it to Apple's servers. The words come back into this tab. This page does not take a copy of the audio.

Which browsers can do this?

Current Chrome, Edge and Safari. When a browser has no voice typing, the page says so and you can still type in the box.

Can I keep the text?

Copy it or save a text file. A reload keeps the transcript in this tab. Closing the tab clears it. The transcript stays out of the page link.

Does it add punctuation?

That depends on the speech service. Speak the punctuation if you want a period or a comma, then read the box and fix anything that landed in the wrong place.

Which language should I pick?

Leave the menu on this browser's language, or choose one from the list. A language the speech service does not offer shows a short message so you can pick another.
